Professor Primorac contributed a short article to the book “Marin Čilić: Tennis Miracle From Međugorje”, published by renowned publisher Večernji List.
Marin has become an inspiration to millions of young people around the world
To win the US Open is the best way to enter sports history. But the way Marin Ćilić did it is unique, because after ten years of Grand Slam finals (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open), which featured the usual favourites and winners Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Novak Đoković, Marin demonstrated that there is some room at the top. My American friends tell me that Marin’s charm, his modest and easy going nature swept the US off their feet. This is Marin I know personally. Having also known Goran Ivanišević since we were young kids, I knew it was only a matter of time when Goran would implant his famous “defiance” and self-confidence into Marin, to complement his tennis genius. When Marin said after the match that he was grateful to Goran for helping him fall in love with tennis again, it was clear that Marin found himself again. Only the greatest can overcome those crises, injustice and accusations, Marin has endured, but it looks like that is the path for the ones who make history. Marin’s world has changed for good in a matter of days. The quiet, hard-working young man who always put patriotism and the power of personal faith first as his life path, turned into inspiration for millions of young worldwide because if a kid from a small-time outback town of Međugorje can reach the top of the world, then any youth can, no matter which corner of the Earth they came from. I am so happy that we, St. Catherine Specialty Hospital, walked with him on his way to the top and helped him in his life. And finally, from the bottom of our hearts we would like you to have our Summa cum laude, dear Marin.
